Fluff Stash

My bloggy friend Katie wrote this awesome post showing her "Fluff Stash" and writing her detailed thoughts. If you have any ?s about cloth diapering at all, check out her great post!

I want to get a neat photo like hers but for now, here's our written details!!!

Our Fluff Stash to date:

1 Knickernappie One Size
3 FuzziBunz One Size
1 Monkey Doodlez (sized)
1 Happy Heiny One Size (snaps)
1 bumGenius Organic One Size (snaps)
19 bumGenius One Size

Total: 26 (my stopping point is 36, I still have fun buying about 1-2 per month now!)

Favorite: bumGenius One Size, then Knickernappie (this one wouldn't be good for a wiggly baby though-see my detailed review here)

Least Favorite: Monkey Doodlez, then Happy Heinys

~My detailed reviews of these are all to come ;)

Still hope to try: Wahmies, Rocky Mountain, SmartiPants, Rumparooz, Antsy Pants. If anyone has any opinions about any of these, please let me know or direct me to other reviews on other blogs please!!!

I have also purchased additional supplies (wet bags, wipe solution/bottles, cloth wipes, etc.) Here is my savings spreadsheet, which I update every time I do laundry! If you enlarge it, you can see how often I do laundry and exactly how much I have spent.

Total Spent so far: $551.86 (includes all diapers and all additional supplies I have purchased)

Total Saved so far (she is almost 5 months old): $106.90 (25 cents per diaper, 5 cents per wipe)

If you do some simple math in your head you can see that even if I do purchase more cloth diapers/supplies, I will still come out way ahead than if we used disposies!!!

Don't forget if you order from Squishy Tushy, we both get credit!!! I have already received $15 credit so far!!! Thanks to whoever it was that ordered and gave Teresa my name!

Yeah for a bloggy friend! :) Love the savings analysis! I wish I'd done that from the beginning! We've used rumparooz and I like the snap version but the apliz version was awful. My little one has a belly and the velcro scratched him horribly. but it could just be his build. Have a great day!

I am so glad the diapers are working out so well for you :) I plan on buying quite a few new ones when our baby girl arrives. Just need to save some money before then, lol. I'd also like to try some new diapers in addition to the bum genius. Now that Smiley is older, he has figured out how to pull down the velcro diapers, which he tends to do especially at night or during naps. The snaps are working a lot better right now, because he can't pull them down. So, I plan on buying a few more diapers with snaps for him. I don't know if pulling down their diapers is something that is common with other kids as well, but if it is, I would recommend getting some more diapers with snaps...

I have only used the bumGenius 3.0 one size diapers so I can't offer advice on the other kinds, but wow you have a lot of them! I only have 10 diapers and I wash them every 2-3 days. I do put a disposable on her when we go to the grocery store and when she is in the nursery at church. I wonder if I would save more money if I bought more cloth diapers and didn't have to run the washer as much?? Any thoughts?

I can't comment on any of the ones you're wanting to try but when I used pockets I really liked GADS (greenacredesigns). Cloth is so fun though and I really believe it helped my older daughter potty train easily before 2.

I have not tried the ones you are hoping to try, although I would love to hear what you think of them. I am a big fan of the Bummis Cover. Mentally, I have trouble getting past pulling the pocket part out and like that the covers just fall right off. My favorite part of cloth is that my baby will be potty trained MUCH earlier - I am not ready for 3 years of diapers!

You MUST try Monkey Bunns but I'm a tad bit biased :). We love Monkey Bunns. They were designed to avoid pulling gross inserts out (the pocket is in the front) and with legs to fit the skinniest of babies (they also fit chunky thighs well). We've never had a leak unless daddy put the diaper on wrong!

I have not tried, or even heard of the ones you are hoping to try. I do really appreciate your money saving chart and thank you for doing the hard work for us other moms out there.

The only one we have tried are the Whamies, and they just didn't fit my big guy very well. But your little one looks teeny, so you might have better luck. I'm due with my second shortly, and trying to decide what to buy for him...

I really like Dream-Eze. They are AI2s, so there are no pockets to stuff, but a faster drying time than an AIO. They are also very soft inside, which is nice.

we only use fitteds and covers so, sorry, no advice. GL!

Honestly I don't understand why people use cloth diapers that cost so much when there are cheaper options available. I use Kawaii Baby pocket diapers. They come with two inserts, and they are only $6.99 each and are much the same as BumGenius. So I'm not paying $25 each when I can pay $6.99 for great diapers.

The Kawaii Baby ones can be used overnight with boys and not leak. (I have three boys in diapers).

I'm glad to see that even with paying exorbitant prices for cloth diapers, that you are still saving money. I am probably just going to use washcloths as my "cloth wipes" as actual "cloth wipes" are unnecessarily expensive also.

I do want a wet bag for my diaper bag, and I also want one of those sprayer hoses that you can connect to the toilet to spray off the poo right into the toilet.

I also use flannel inserts that go on the top of the diaper so that if they poop I can just pull the flannel insert off the diaper and if it's a solid poop, it rolls right off the flannel and into the toilet. And, it preserves the cloth diapers a little longer.

Mrs W ... I can't seem to find Kawaii Diapers online...can you give me a site? I am very interested!

I love my wet bag, and I am going to get a sprayer. Great idea about using fleece liners-I never thought of that! I just bought disposable liners for an upcoming trip, but didn't think to use washable liners!

After purchasing cloth wipes, I had my mom make me some!!! I am going to post about them soon-they're so cute!

Thanks everyone for your comments!

I would love to find out the site for the Kawaii diapers too. I have never heard of the diapers you want to try. I use prefolds, but would like to try a Kawaii diaper now.

I am very impressed with your savings spreadsheet. I wish I had thought to do that. I cloth diapered my oldest about 80% of the time for 18 months and my youngest about 50% of the time for 13 months (so far). We are using the same diapers to the savings really ads up then.

I have not tried any of the ones you want to buy. But I do have advice for you about cloth diapering.
Buy liners (I prefer the Kushies brand). It makes poop clean-up so much eashier! Esp. when it is not solid yet. I never needed to buy toliet sprayer because of the liners.

I have been using cloth diapers for 4 months now & I am totally loving it & regret that I didn't use them with my other children. I too am also using disposible wipes - the savings together is amazing!
Not sure what wetbags you have but here is my favorite:

Also, when washing I add vinegar to the fabric softner dispenser & I hang mine on a clothesline to dry every so often - works great on stains!!

Thirsties are my all time favorite so far. I like the all-in-ones & pocket diapers for bedtime mostly.

Sorry ladies forgot to post a link. Here's the Kawaii Baby brand diapers:

http://theluvyourbaby.com/8-36lbsHeavyDuty621.htm

I love this system. I don't think the inserts are yukky lol.

The lady who runs this site is great, we had a problem with our order and she fixed everything very well.

Try prefolds! The cost difference is AMAZING and they are super easy - I honestly think they are trimmer than AIO's or pockets (we've done them all) - quicker, dry better, etc. I was always apprehensive about trying them, but started them on my girl when she was born and we love them. Like I said, the cost difference is AMAZING! You should try them - you will like them :)

I love the comment about liners. I love them and wished I'd used them more often. I'm concerned about how you wash the velcro covers. I've only used snaps and I just washed the covers with her clothes once a week with a stash of 10-12 covers at a time. Another great thing for us was the inserts/doublers. You can easily use your prefolds for that and its a lifesaver as they get older. Happy diapering

You should try grobaby next! I am a fan of them, just like BG 3.0 but instead of the pocket the insert snaps in.

I think you should buy a pair of wool longies and a couple of fitteds from me next and try those out, I think you would really like them! :) hehe

My cloth diapering tip: use a liner so you don't have to scrub poo. I wash a white cloud brand diaper wipe (yes it's a wipe, but its a cloth kind), put it in the crotch area. If the diaper is wet I wash the wipe with the rest of the diaper. If it is soiled, I lift the wipe and the poo throw it away and I don't have to scrub my diaper! Love it!

Wow, I came to your other blog to find home preschool ideas--didn't know I was going to find another cloth-diapering mama! : )
I'm leaving a comment here to enter to win the BG... not sure if I'm doing this right! haha!
I will say that the very first CDs we bought were BG 2.0s. after a month I hated them! the velcro started tearing away from the part it was sewn to. They stunk. The elastic got all stretched out and didn't hug my baby's legs. Now I'm wanting to try the BG 3.0s to see if they're better. Everyone says they are.
Right now, we are using some work-at-home mom diapers called Softies that I bought used from an "internet friend" : ) They are fitted and require a cover. I like them pretty well. They are just a little bulkier than I'd like once you add the cover.
BTW, I used the BG2.0s with my first, who is almost 3 now. I got out of CDing b/c my first experience wasn't so good and didn't start again until my 2nd was about 4 months old. She's 15 months now.
We cloth diaper at home during the day. at night she wears a 'sposie, usually poops in that first thing in the morning (yay for no poop in cloth!) and then we do cloth the rest of the day. If we go out, I'll usually bring sposies. just depends on where we're going and how long we'll be gone.
sorry this is so long. felt like I had to introduce myself I guess! btw, I'm Jessica : )

Wow, you have a lot of Bum Genious! I just started using the one-size Fuzzi Bunz and love it. I like the fleece liner and how dry my daughter's skin stays. My go-to diaper for naptime still is something different, though: a prefold with a fleece liner, a knickernappies loopydo insert (used as a doubler), plus a wool soaker (by Babyology - I got it on ebay). We've never had a leak with that combo!

We have smartipants, and they are pretty awesome. The best feature (imo) is that you don't have to pull out the insert before washing. My LO is a heavy wetter, so they aren't great for nap time, but I love them for daytime use.

I don't have time for a full on review, so here is a review from a friend of mine:

I am a BG girl. I like Happy Heiny's and sell them in my online store, but BG really just fits my son so well. They are trim, easy to add extra absorbancy to, and are just adorable!

I love my Smartipants. I have 9 of them. I love that the insert comes out in the wash. Unfortunately, they are a little too tight on my 2.5 year old, so I had to set them aside for now. :(

I haven't used the Fuzzi Bunz One Size diapers yet, but I have been using the Perfect Size diapers for about 6 months now, and I love them. I think I would prefer the Perfect Size over the One Size due to the trimness. Like you, I am also interested in trying Rumparooz. I have heard good things about them.

At what age did your baby start wearing cloth diapers? Just curious as I do more research on using them on 0-6 month old babies. Our son uses Green Acre Diapers(from age 21 months to 30 months and counting) and we love them! Not sure if they work for newborns so I'm researching this just in case. I love that I can load them ahead of time and just snap them on. We use hemp doublers along with microfiber inserts at night and for long stints in the diaper. You get discount for buying a certain number of diapers when you buy GADs through the greenacredesign.com web site. Great customer service and the diapers are holding up wonderfully!
