The RIGHT Bread?

We eat sandwiches, and I do not (and will not) make my own bread. We eat enough bread that I need to be able to find what we use reasonably priced at my neighborhood shopping centers (not my special places)...which for me are Target and Shoprite.

Several years ago we converted to all 100% whole grains, and that's great...but now that new ingredients are coming to my attention, I realize that alone wasn't good enough. I always knew many WW breads had High Fructose Corn Syrup in them and I hated it, I just couldn't' seem to find one that didn't, so we lived with it.

I think I found our new bread... The back label is why I am so pleased....
It may not be the absolute best bread for us but it is certainly better than the other WW breads we used, and I found it at Target!!!!

What brand of bread do any of you think is best, or what ingredients do you focus on when choosing bread items (bagels, tortillas, etc.). Anyone have a better WW bagel than Thomas' mini(that's what we eat regularly)? They also have HfCS in them...so we opt for bread more than bagels but my boys love the mini bagels!

I'm really enjoying your blog. I've been doing the same type of things....trying to switch my products. From make-up and lotions to bread and everything in between.

I also like the bread that you mentioned. The first ingr. that I look for is high fructose corn syrup, I then scan for food coloring and then preservatives. So far, Arnold has been our favorite.Have you seen the new lunch meat by Hormel? No bad preservatives.

The Arnold Select Sandwich Thins Multi-Grain are also really good (my 4 yr old son LOVES them)! No high fructose corn syrup, 5 grams of fiber, 4 grams of protein!

Try Costco. I buy their 100% Multi Grain bread. It has everything you want and it is a variety of whole grains!

Awh Carisa, you could make your own bread!!! :-) You just need a bread machine! We have one and I LOVE it! I struggled with the whole bread thing and once I finally gave in a tried out a bread machine I found from Goodwill, I was hooked!!!!! If you do decide to try one out, let me know. I have a 100% whole wheat recipe for you to try out. No pressure though! :-)

We switched to arnold a while ago and were still loving it! It also helps that its the only whole wheat bread that taste good to my family, which was the biggest struggle! And its cheaper than the white bread i was buying too, i pay $1.88 a loaf

I usually buy fresh bread from trader joes. I like them because they are less processed and typically consist only of flour, water, yeast, salt and maybe some oil. The disadvantage is that they get stale quickly because they don't have preservatives. You can slice the bread though and put it in the freezer if you don't use it up before it gets stale. Also, many bakeries sell their fresh bread for half price after 5pm or so in the evening. Definitely worth asking. It's nice because we live right by TJ's and a bakery. However, you have to do what's most convenient for you, and the bread you found looks like one of the best bagged breads. I know they have a bunch of healthy bagged ones at TJ's. I don't know if stocking up and freezing would be an option at all. Otherwise, I'd say stick with the one you found :)

I started making my own bread when I read the no-kneed recipes (like Artisan Bread in 5 Minutes a Day). If you want fresh bread with no preservatives or HFCS or artificial anything, it's awesome. And, it's literally 5 minutes of hands-on time.

I've been lurking on the Tots website for a while now, but haven't posted yet...I'm enjoying the natural aspect of this blog!

I make some type of homemade bread every week, but sandwiches (in our opinion) aren't sandwiches unless they're on store-bought bread.

We like Aunt Millie's whole grain breads the best, and I'll only buy the ones without HFCS. It's often on sale at a local store, which is nice!

I'll keep my eye out for Arnold bread...we may just give it a try! :)
